Are You Ready to Shake Up Your Career?

Choosing your career path when you’re a teenager or young adult seems crazy. You barely know who you are at that age, let alone what you want for your life.

Yet, many of us need to decide on a path before we enter college, carving out a career with our educational choices. So, is it any surprise that people hit their thirties, forties, or later and decide that they want a change?

Or, that things are feeling a bit stagnant, and they want to bring a bit of excitement into the mix?

Growing as an employee should always be at the top of your to-do list. After all, as humans, we’re meant to evolve. If you know that you’re ready to shake up your career, here are a few things you can do to make it happen.

Create a Career Plan

First of all, you’re going to want to make sure that you create a career plan that helps you to think through what you want to do and the steps you’ll need to take to get there. This can be something you do in a notebook or by drafting up a formal plan on your computer. Either way, you can jot down ideas, focus on action points you need to take, and get excited about your career again.

Go Out for a Promotion

If you do love the job you’re in or you know that you’re on the right career path, it might be time for some progression. So here, you may find that your next step is for you to go out for a promotion. It might not be immediately–there may be things you need to do to be ready to reach your next level–but you’ll want to start getting the wheels in motion.

Look for New Opportunities

Sometimes, it might be that you want to seek out new opportunities entirely. Maybe you’re ready to move to a new company or even get into a brand new field. Here, you can look out for exciting opportunities like applying to be part of the Burning Man medical team or even working abroad. New opportunities don’t always mean more of the same, they can be exciting too.

Start Volunteering

Another option is to start volunteering. Volunteering comes with a range of benefits that both improve your life and help your career. You may find that you’re able to learn new skills, boost your confidence, help others, and get experience that helps you to expand your career or even move into a new field.

Go it Alone!

Lastly, one of the biggest ways you can look to shake up your career is for you to go out on your own and start your own business. This won’t be for everyone, but if it’s something that you’ve been thinking about, now could be the time for you to do it. You may find that starting your own thing or creating a side hustle before you go full-time is exactly what you need.

It can be a great way to shake things up, give you more freedom and control over your career and life, and allow you to build something for yourself.
